For procedures related only to the consular jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Italy in Kolkata, the relevant information is listed here below:
a) Procedure for registration of Civil Status certificates (Marriage; Birth; Death) in Italian municipalities
All Civil Status certificates must be submitted or sent to the Consulate General for further transmission to the Italian competent municipality for registration. Every original certificate needs to bear the following attestations:
For documents issued in Kolkata
- Attestation by the Home Secretary/NRI Office of the State Government
- Apostille issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India
- Italian translation in confromity with the original, to be attested by the Embassy
For documents issued in the other States falling in the Consulate General's jurisdiction
- Attestation by the competent Sub Divisional Magistrate
- Attestation by the Home Secretary/NRI Office of the State Government
- Apostille issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India
- Italian translation in confromity with the original, to be attested by the Consulate General

b) Procedure for submission of notarial deeds issued by Indian Notaries to non-E.U. citizens:
For notarial deeds issued in Kolkata
- Attestation by the Home Secretary/NRI Office of the State Government
- Apostille issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India
- Italian translation in confromity with the original, to be attested by the Consulate General
For notarial deeds issued in the other States falling in the Consulate General's jurisdiction
- Attestation by the competent Sub Divisional Magistrate
- Attestation by the Home Secretary/NRI Office of the State Government
- Apostille issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India
- Italian translation in conformity with the original, to be attested by the Consulate General

c) Declaration of Value of Diplomas/Degrees for admission to Italian schools and Universities
In order to obtain a Declaration of Value it is necessary to:
- Get the Diploma/Degree authenticated by the Official Regional Authentication Centre of the State where the Diploma/Degree has
been issued
- Obtain the Apostille issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs
- Submit (in the Consular Section):
1) Highest original Diploma/Degree, authenticated and apostilled
2) Italian translation of Diploma/Degree
3) Photocopy of passport
4) Application form accompanied with invitation / acceptance letter from the Italian University
