CONSUL GENERAL GIULIANO FRAGNITO
Giuliano Fragnito was born in Milan on July 26, 1983.
He graduated cum laude in International Political Science from the University of Bologna in 2007.
In 2009, he joined the Italian diplomatic service, holding various positions both at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Rome and at Italian Embassies and Permanent Representations abroad.
Abroad, he served at the Embassy of Italy in Ethiopia from 2013 to 2017, as Head of the Political and Cultural Affairs Office. From 2017 to 2020, he served at the Permanent Representation of Italy to the European Union in Brussels as delegate for the Western Balkans and Turkey. From 2022 to 2026, he served at the Embassy of Italy in Saudi Arabia as Deputy Head of Mission.
In Rome, he worked in several offices, including the Political Office for East Africa, the Development Cooperation Directorate General, the Press Office, the Cabinet Office – Relations with Parliament and the Unit for the Promotion of Italy in International Organizations.
He began his mandate as Italy’s Consul General in Calcutta-Kolkata on September 14, 2026, with consular jurisdiction over the Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim and Tripura, the Union Territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as well as Nepal.
He is married and has one child. He speaks fluently English, French and Spanish.
MESSAGE OF THE CONSUL GENERAL
Dear fellow citizens, dear friends of Italy,
I am very pleased to welcome you to the official website of the Consulate General of Italy in Calcutta-Kolkata, which has a consular jurisdiction over the Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim, and Tripura, the Union Territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, as well as Nepal.
I begin my mandate as Consul General today with great enthusiasm and pride, honoured to represent Italy in a place so rich in history and culture. This consular office operates in a region full of cultural, economic and academic vitality, serving as a natural bridge between Italy, North-Eastern India and Nepal.
In this context, the Consulate General aims to be an open space, promoting and facilitating dialogue and opportunities, close to Italian citizens and to Indian and Nepali friends of Italy, as well as to everyone who wants to develop relations with our country.
I am confident that you will continue to support the activities of the Consulate General as you have done with my predecessors, to whom I extend my personal gratitude for the great work carried out so far. Together with the staff of the Consulate General, I will continue to work to ensure and improve the efficiency of consular services for Italians and residents in this jurisdiction, as well as to provide assistance to our fellow citizens.
Under the coordination of the Embassy in New Delhi, and with the valuable contribution of the Italian Cultural Institute and the Italian Trade Agency, the Consulate General will work to promote and further strengthen the relationship of friendship and collaborations between this consular jurisdiction and Italy in multiple areas: cultural, economic-commercial, scientific–academic, and linguistic.
